roommate (n. Ruskij/Русский 'rummateski')- as you are neither British, nor Australian, nor on the Discovery Channel you may find yourself wondering why you call this person 'mate'. They really should be your 'roomfriend' or, in cases of enduring friendship, your 'rommieskizzle'.
